Today was Nancy's daughter's birthday. Her daughter, Ashley Johanna turned 4 today, and until thursday, Nancy hadn't seen her daughter in six months.
As soon as Nancy and I arrived at the house, Ashley grabbed my hand and started talking, and never stopped. She is positively adorable, huggable, kissable, and has the laugh of an angel. Her laugh never ceased to melt my heart all day. When the party started, 4 more children arrived, and they were all adorable. I didn't ever catch any of the other kid's names, but they were hilarious. At first, I mostly played with Ashley and the other 3 little girls, but I noticed that the one little boy was particularly quiet, and I wanted to talk to him too. At first, he wouldn't talk to me, but somehow I earned his trust, and after that, there was no getting him away from my side. He followed me everywhere. He put his arms around my neck, leaned his head on my shoulder, and hardly ever said a word. When he did talk, I had to lean in really close to hear him. At one point, I was holding him on my lap, and he kissed me on my cheek. That's when he truly stole my heart.
I don't know his name, but he was 3 years old, had a smile that made the Heavens shine, and today, he crawled into a special place in my heart. I fell in love with that little boy today. Completely, totally, and unabashedly in-love with a 3-year-old boy who has the most beautiful soul out of anyone I've ever met.
I know that whatever I do for a living in about 4 years, I want it to involve children, because I can never imagine feeling as much happiness as when a child accepts your love and returns it back tenfold. It's truly the greatest feeling in the world, to see God through a child's kiss.
